Claira Ford, LPC

Claira is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and the District of Columbia. She also holds a D.C. School Counseling License. Claira has a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from George Washington University. She received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology and English Literature from Florida State University. Before starting her practice at Gil Institute, Claira worked in outpatient settings and in special education schools. She has training in trauma recovery and is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Additionally, she is trained in Theraplay (an attachment model) and is currently working on certification to become a Registered Play Therapist. Claira specializes in working with children and adolescents with anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and trauma histories. Claira practices an integrative play-based approach that is client-centered. Claira believes in working collaboratively with children and families to find their natural strengths and resources to begin to heal and grow.
